Crunching noises from the gravel was heard as my dad pulled the car out. We were all set and ready to leave. The ride to Yellowstone was long but nice. I was a reading a good book and occasionally enjoying the wonderful landscape! We crossed two states, Utah and Idaho. Then we finally reached the city of West Yellowstone in Montana. This place was sort of like a small village. Small roadside shops and in front of each of then a bison painted colorfully with symbols and pictures. After an early dinner we set for the adventure. Who knew what animals we'd see...!
So first we entered Yellowstone nation Park and we weren't really sure which of the 300 geysers to see first. And so we went a while enjoying the pleasant greenery with the occasional glimpse of a sparkling grey line that was the Madison River.
Then we decided to get a closer view of the river and so stopped at a pullout area. And went down a gravel path. Here we saw cute little chipmunks called Least Chipmunks. like their the small cuities kept bouncing away into their burrows when ever they heard noises. The after a few photos with the river we left to see the nearest geyser we could.
On the way there was some sort of excited commotion. Cars stopping in an unorderly fashion and people scrambling out to get a better view of something. We followed suit. With a camer in hand i crossed to where people were crouching down and i saw the first sign of wildlife there. Two huge balsck and hairry bisons sitting and staring into where i couln't tell because so black was their heads i couldn't tell if they had eyes. They didn't care about their publicity. They were just sitting there lazy. Pretty close to the road among tall trees.
Well lets leve them to themselves now and we went on and on when we finally saw the first of the thick white wisps of stem rising from somewhere behind the trees. We followed the road until we came to Fountain Pots. A place with lots of volcanic activity that caused the formation of geysers. A wooden path was built to tread on and not be harmed by the thermal groung below.
We first saw the Bacteria Mat as watery place where bright orange stuff was lying every where. And those stuff where bacteria called thermophiles who love the hot are and call it home. After some oohs and aahs, we went on the path until we came to place where something was bubbling and popping. Fountain Paint Pots and place where mud was boiling and hunge bubbles of mud were formed and the popped.
Next was the first ever geyser I saw, Spasm Geyser. This geyser was located in a vast and barren land among other geysers most of then smaller. And there it was jerking and sprouting water like it was having a spasm attack. I could feel the heat of the steam from where i was standing. Oh my it was so interesting to look at something so complicated be formed without the help of machines or something like that. All the works of nature. It was a beautiful sight the wisps of hot steam againt the setting sun that cast an orange light in the western sky.
It was growing dar and we headed back to the hotel when we suddenly stopped behind a line of cars. We wondered if it was another animal when we saw a huge black shadow cross the road a little way ahend. We found out that the shadow was that of a bison that went back accross after a drink from the river!
